The goal of the Marine Dealer Visitation Program is to save lives and property by providing marine dealers with the most current boating safety information. Marine Dealer Visitors (MDVs) serve as the primary point-of-contact between the Coast Guard, marine dealers and the recreational boating public.
Objectives of the Marine Dealer Visitation Program include the following:
To establish and/or enhance working relations between the marine dealer, the Coast Guard and the Coast Guard Auxiliary;
To utilize the dealer as the contact point for making the boating public more aware of State and Federal requirements for boating safety; and
To provide information regarding boating safety, Auxiliary Public Education Courses, Vessel Safety Checks (VSC), Auxiliary membership, and to distribute Coast Guard and Coast Guard Auxiliary handout materials.
In 2002, over 1,500 Marine Dealer Visitors provided on-site services to 50,000 marine services dealers. Potential customers contacting a dealership will be interested in boating safety. The dealer, in turn, can then provide their customers with the most up-to-date boating safety information, Auxiliary Vessel Safety Check (VSC) station locations and the details on Public Education courses.
